Résumé

Le sujet de cet article est le gaspillage des objets. Il permet de comprendre ce à quoi renvoie l’usage du terme « gaspillage » pour des objets par leur possesseur. Cet article¹ apporte en creux des éléments que les organisations pourraient mobiliser pour mieux sensibiliser les individus contre le gaspillage des objets. À partir de vingt-et-un entretiens et des observations à domicile, les résultats de cet article montrent que les individus se réfèrent aux utilités passée et future pour eux et pour autrui pour qualifier une situation de gaspillage pour des objets. Les implications sociétales et managériales sont alors discutées.

Abstract

The subject of this paper is the wastage of objects. The paper helps clarify our understanding of what the term “wastage” means for the owners of these items. It also foregrounds what organizations might do to make people more aware of this type of wastage. On the basis of twenty-one interviews and observations in respondents’ homes, the findings show that individuals consider their objects’ past and future utility for themselves and others in characterizing wasteful situations. The paper concludes with a discussion of the societal and managerial implications of the findings.
